| Amazing!!! (A Nederland Review) |
| |
No matter what word or title is on top of this item, no expression would justify the experience that thousands of people had last night. A wild and crazy group of fans, ranging in age from young to old. The vibes that were coming from the stage were bounced back to the musicians. Afterwards, the cast told us this was the best audience of the tour so far. It is a well known fact that a Dutch audience is always very enthusiastic - and that's the way it should be! The sound, the lights and the projection, all was perfect in place and balance. It is always a pity that an original cast member cannot be part of a show like Jerry Scheff in this case but replacement Nathan East was a perfect choice. The global concept of the show is still the same, but the production knows how to add new elements during each tour like a surprising photo collage or new footage and camera angles from ?That's The Way It Is'. The most used footage is from that show and the ?Aloha Concert'. Footage from ?On Tour' is still too less. We already wrote about the rumors for a follow up on this tour. Some sources are writing that this is not true, but we would like to repeat that the idea is definitely discussed. We would like to state that no decisions are made at all, but the persons and parties involved, confirmed again yesterday that this tour would not mean a definitive end. It is known that ?On Tour' will be released in a restored version on DBD and Blu Ray. It could be a perfect source for lots of new footage to include in the setlist. On the link below, you can see the start of the concert.

Zippin Pippin; The Story Continues |
| |
The mayor of Green Bay, Wis., says his city wants to buy the Zippin Pippin for its historic Bay Beach Amusement Park. Mayor Jim Schmitt, in Memphis Monday to see the vintage wooden roller coaster at its Libertyland site, did not disclose a purchase price, but said that most of the money Green Bay pays would go to relocation of the roller coaster. Schmitt said last week that re-engineering the roller coaster in Green Bay would cost "well over $1 million." "We're impressed," Schmitt said after his early morning visit to the Zippin Pippin. "We've talked to our engineers, and this can happen." Schmitt said he would begin negotiating with Save Libertyland Inc. and Mulroy in the hopes that the roller coaster would be operational in Green Bay in May 2011. He said preparatory construction work could begin as early as June or July. "This is a wonderful opportunity for both of our great cities, and we are hopeful that it will lead to something of great mutual value and benefit for all of our citizens," said Memphis Mayor A C Wharton, who met with Schmitt Monday morning. Schmitt said the Zippin Pippin fits perfectly with his city's historic amusement park, a "family-friendly" park which features 25-cent rides and is slated for expansion. Mike McCarthy, a filmmaker creating a documentary about the decline of Libertyland and the Zippin Pippin, and an officer with Save Libertyland, said he was happy that the roller coaster is getting a new home. "It's awesome," said McCarthy. "Let it go to a city that respects history and culture."

Sold: Elvis's car at the Imperial Palace |
| |
It was one of the most photographed cars at the Car Museum of the Las Vegas Imperial Palace Hotel, but now it is gone. The King's 1974 Cadillac has been sold to a collector and was taken out of the Imperial's Car Museum. This happened some time ago, but we just found out. Costing $14,409, this was Elvis's last "Vacation Car," and was kept in Denver, Colorado. Elvis would fly into Denver and drive the car to Aspen or other resorts. It has been modified for Elvis with added grille fog lamps, gold covered wheel covers, the initials "TCB" (Taking Care of Business) on the doors, and a radio and TV in the back. After Elvis's death, the car was sold to a trio of Jackson, Tenn businessmen who insured it for $1 million and took it on a nationwide tour. In April 1988 it became part of the Imperial Palace car collection in Las Vegas.

75th Birthday Auction |
| |
Henry Aldridge and Son will be auctioning a number of important items of Elvis material. The lots going under the hammer will offer collectors around the world the chance to own their own piece of Elvis history. These include a guitar pick from his final 1977 tour. This reddish-brown triangular guitar pick with E.P. imprinted was used by Elvis Presley for his final tour in the spring/summer of 1977. The style of picks changed over the years, with the early ones being made by Fender. This guitar pick, which was used onstage, was one of the last used by Elvis during his lifetime and was acquired directly from the estate of Elvis Presley. It was on display for many years at the world famous ELVIS-A-RAMA MUSEUM in Las Vegas and is estimated at £700-£900. Other items include an autographed copy of a Blue Hawaii LP. Elvis has written 'Thanks Elvis Presley' in red ink, The LP was owned by Joan Schmidt-Powell. Elvis had known Joan since 1956 with their first meeting being at Paramount Pictures and they stayed in touch until Elvis' Death. Elvis' nickname for her was Jo, Jo-Jo and in the seventies Jo Go-Go. Also included with the lot is a copy of a letter from Elvis's father, Vernon Presley to Joan regarding Elvis' funeral. This item is estimated at £500-£700. One particularly notable item in the auction is a reel of 16mm film which was obtained directly from Jimmy Velvet, the president of the world famous Elvis Presley Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. Jimmy was a friend of Elvis's for a number of years as well as being a popular entertainer in his own right. The footage itself gives a fascinating insight into Elvis private life and lasts for 17 minutes. It starts off with Priscilla walking over to an old stage wagon in the desert in Westworld just outside Las Vegas and explaining that these are her most precious memories of the days she had with Elvis. It appears to have been come from Priscilla's' own personal home movies of Elvis and gives the viewer a snapshot of life behind the scenes. Other scenes show Elvis and Priscilla at their Wedding Eve party then Graceland, the Presley's arriving home from the hospital with Lisa Marie and Elvis and Priscilla with Baby Lisa driving around the city waving at fans, holding Lisa to the window. The 16mm film reel is being sold as is without any copyright or other rights whatsoever. It is estimated to sell for £4000-£6000. Other lots being sold are the original registration card/document issued on 08/10/70 for Elvis's 1966 Harley Davidson Motorcycle, Colonel Tom Parkers original registration card/document issued on 02/02/72 for his 1972 Mercedes, original pages from the flight logbook of Elvis's private Convair jet The Lisa Marie and personal items owned and used by Elvis Presley in his Monovale Drive home in California. A Hidden Elvis treasure or worthless junk? |
| |
This eBay seller certainly knows how to get the attention... just posted on eBay is this interesting set of "unseen tapes": You are bidding on two (2) original 3/4" videotapes in their original cases of Elvis Presley filmed in the mid-1970s. In an effort to keep the contents of these tapes private, less than 5 minutes of footage has ever been seen. These tapes have never been released and have never been viewed by anyone since being filmed. No copies of these tapes have ever been made. Buyer will own all rights to the footage. These are the only known unreleased Elvis tapes. With speculation that these tapes hold unreleased Elvis songs, unreleased concert footage, behind-the-scenes footage, and never before seen candid Elvis moments, these tapes have been valued at well over $10,000,000.00. The approximate run time of these tapes are 30-45 minutes each. Each tape is in mint condition, has great video and sound quality and has been kept in an air-conditioned vault.
In 1974, three years before his death, these tapes were personally given by Elvis to his close friend, confidant and back-up singer, J.D. Sumner of J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet. In 1995, J.D. personally gave these tapes to his long-time friend and manager, Jimmy Patterson, in leiu of payment for a personal loan. In 2009, because of his declining health and worries that these priceless tapes would be neglected after his death, Jimmy passed along these tapes to their current owner. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own such unprecedented memorabilia.
If not purchased, after February 1, 2010 these tapes will no longer be available for public sale.

Fire hits shuttered resort on Kauai |
| |
The shuttered Coco Palms resort on Kauai made famous by Elvis Presley has been hit by fire and sustained about $80,000 in damage. Presley filmed his 1961 movie "Blue Hawaii" on the resort's lush grounds. A Kauai County statement says firefighters were notified early Thursday. They controlled the blaze in about an hour, but were called back later to douse a flare-up. About 1,000 square feet of a portion of the resort that had been occupied by a retailer was destroyed. A caretaker's office sustained water damage. The county statement says investigators are trying to determine the fire's cause.

Elvis' Mercedes for sale...
|
| |
From eBay: A Car fit for A King. In 2008 this car was appraised at $750,000 by a New York appraiser for a possible donation to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This is Elvis Presley's personal car that is incredibly documented from new. This is definitely a piece of Rolling Art probably better described as Rock and Rolling Art. Elvis purchased this car and titled it in his name. One of the very few cars that were ever titled and registered in his name. This is the one with the famous "Lightning Bolt" in gold leaf with TCB (Takin' Care of Business) logo on both front doors. I have copies of the original bill of sale, Elvis's registration card, the Retail Delivery Statement from Mercedes, the title and the finance contract.. Yes, The "King" financed this car placing $5500.00 down payment and 36 payments of $344.44 per month. Amazing!
I also have a copy of a great photo of Elvis in a tuxedo getting into this car. In addition I have Elvis's authentic driver's license issued September 1975 through 1977 by the State of Tennessee which states on the reverse side that it was also good for motorcycles. I believe that this may have been Elvis's last driver's license. Elvis used this car when he was honored and received the Jaycees Outstanding Man of the Year Award. After owning it for several years he gave this car to his friend the famous Jimmy Velvet somewhere between 1976 and 1977.
I intend to sell this vehicle and have a very reasonable reserve. This will probably be proven to be the Best Investment of the Century for the successful bidder. Not only an investment but a joy to drive. I just took my 96 year old mother out for the day and drove it 90 miles an hour on the Interstate. It runs better, quicker and smoother than my Rolls Royce. This vehicle will attract hordes of people making it a great instrument for promotions, advertising, and public relations or fund raising.
Recently over $36,000 was spent covering the brake systems, the air suspension, a new exhaust system, the air conditioning, a new drive shaft, hoses, belts and full servicing. It is a pleasure to drive. It shows just over 60,000 miles which are believed to be correct.
The silver finish looks better than most cars under ten years old let alone one on a 33 year old car. The interior is wonderfully original with plush black leather seats that look like they are only a few years old. Even the leather door panels are terrific. These seats have not been dyed. They are great, same for the carpeting and headliner. The Zebora wood on the dash is lovely however the varnish on the wood trim door moldings show signs of varnish discoloration from the sun. I love originality or would have spent two days to easily refinish the wood. That is your choice. I wouldn't do it to a piece of Chippendale furniture nor would I refinish this.
Please if you are interested, you may come and inspect the car yourself before you bid. I am located near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Like any other car over 30 years old this car is being sold as is with no guarantees.
Best of luck. You will be getting a great car with a great provenance.
Please note that there are two chips in the plastic surrounds around the headlamps (most probably from stones on the roads) however the chrome frame is like brand new. There is a small ?ding' in the chrome moulding around the right rear wheel opening. This does not have to be replaced. The chrome is beautiful. I can have this it repaired and replated for $200.00 and will do so for the new owner if he/she desires.
I have an optional Becker cassette player from another 600 Mercedes and will include that for the new owner. It is a simple mount on the hump beneath the air conditioning. The finish on the air vent lid is lacquer checked. I tried to compound it with a buffer and made it look better. If desired this can be refinished for $200.00 . There are some minor stone chips on the car as you would expect with any car. There are no other known mechanical problems.

Libertyland demolition begins |
| |
Construction workers in Memphis are started with the demolition of a location that is linked with Elvis' life. The amusement park ?Liberty Land' was rented by Elvis after closing time so he and his friends could enjoy themselves in all privacy. Yesterday, the first bulldozers where spotted on the location to clean the abandoned place. On the picture, we see Elvis' favorite coaster, the Zippin Pippin. This attraction is now the main subject of a discussion. The organization ?Save Libertyland' claims that they are the owner of the coaster since the last owner deeded it to them. The city of Memphis wants the coaster to be removed as fast as possible if that is the case. A part of the coaster is already be removed to test the salvageability. The project leader says that everything will be removed within 30 days.

Christmas season at Graceland |
| |
Graceland goes into holiday mode Friday, turning on the blue lights that were a part of the Christmas season when Elvis Presley was in the building. The grounds of the 13.8-acre Whitehaven mansion will be decorated with the life-size Nativity scene, Santa and sleigh and other decorations from the Elvis era. Assisting in the lighting ceremony at 6 p.m., a group of children from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will join Grammy-winning singer Richard Marx at the front gates of Graceland to flip the switch on the lighting display. The blue lights became a fixture after Elvis had them strung along the driveway when "Blue Christmas" became a hit as part of his first Christmas album in 1957. During Friday's free lighting event, Santa will be available for photographs with children. Those unable to make it to the live ceremony can watch by going to the elvis.com Web site. |

TV interview with grandfather Jesse (1958) |
| |
In the huge treasure chest with historical footage that is called YouTube, another diamond is found. The online archive from the American TV Station CBS has released a 3 minute interview with Elvis' grandfather, Jesse D. Presley. Jesse is a guest in a talk show to talk about the release of his single ?The Billy Goat Song'. It seems to be that he had still lots of ambition to make it as a singer at the age of 62. Off course, Jesse thought to make advantage of his famous last name because of Elvis' popularity. ?The Bill Goat Song' was brought to the attention of the fans in 2006 when ElvisMatters released the song on CD and gave a free copy to all of the club members. The talk show host asks Jesse what he would do if his career became successful. The answer is ?I would pay my mortgage and I will retire'. This answer may seem a bit strange, knowing that Elvis would not pay the house for his grandfather while he gave so many things away to strangers. But.Elvis had a good reason for this. Jesse left his family when Vernon was a baby. Vernon never got over this and Elvis always blamed his grandfather for doing this. The woman next to Jesse is not Elvis' grandmother, but Jesse's second wife. As known, Elvis' grandmother en Vernons mother ?Dodger' was loved by her family and she even lived with them. It is remarkable how little there is talked about Elvis. His name is only mentioned in the last seconds, while the couple had no contact at all with Elvis.

With one auction just ended, here comes another. For sale on October 25th: Rare ANS "E" on Las Vegas Hilton letterhead, 5½"x8¼", ca. 1975-77. A discarded sheet retrieved from trash can after Elvis vented his frustrations on paper, crumpled, and threw it away. In a desolate state of mind early one morning when he was alone, he penned in black ink: "help me Lord to get through all of this. I am so tired of it. I think I would like to sleep forever but rest does not come easy for me. Show me a way out from these problems. I want -- E." He has crossed out three words. Crinkling; minor toning; small mounting remnants on verso; minor ink feathering; else easily legible. Retrieved by Hal Noland, author of The Life of Elvis and a Presley confidant obtained by consignor. Accompanied by copy of LOA by Lamar Fike, a member of Elvis' Memphis entourage and a transcript of an interview in which he mentions the letter.

Lisa plans new life in London |
| |
Lisa Marie Presley - pictured here with her twin girls, Finley and Harper - has left Los Angeles for good to start a new life in London with her family. Lisa has lived in Beverly Hills ever since her famous father Elvis passed away in 1977. But following the birth of her twin girls last year (2008), the star and her husband, Michael Lockwood, decided to relocate to Britain. And Presley is planning to make the move permanent, because she loves the laid back lifestyle in London. She tells the U.K.'s Hello magazine, "We have found the quality of life so much more enriching and fulfilling. The civility, the culture, the people and its beauty have reawakened me and have smoothed out some of my bleak and jagged views about people and life."

EARLY FOOTAGE |
| |
From time to time, you can discover real treasures on YouTube. We found this clip on the ElvisMatters forum and we think it's worth to mention it on this page. James Burton was the bandleader of the 'Shindogs' in the popular TV-show 'Shindig'. The band had also Glen D Hardin on piano. The house band played each week with another musical guest. In this recording from 1965, James is playing a solo piece, called 'Love Lost'. A unique time document.

Graceland Stable Welcomes Newest Resident
The staff of Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. is happy to welcome a new addition to Graceland Stable, Tucker, a 13 year old registered Golden Palomino Quarter Horse gelding.
Loyal Elvis fans may recall the loss of Sun's Reflection, also a Golden Palomino, in August of this year. Just as we did after the loss of Elvis' original Palomino, Sun, EPE and the Presley family wanted to keep a Golden Palomino at Graceland Stable as it continues Elvis' legacy and the family's love of horses.
Graceland was lucky enough to find Tucker who was in need of a home and has now arrived at Graceland. Priscilla Presley has been very involved working with the Graceland Stable staff to ensure that this was a good match for our current herd.

As Tucker continues to acclimate to life at Graceland, visitors will be able to catch a glimpse of this Golden Palomino in the pastures that surround the mansion.

Nancy Walters passed away |
| |
Nancy Walters - left of Elvis on this picture - has passed on. She appeared with Elvis in Blue Hawaii as glamorous school teacher Abigail Prentice in charge of a group of teenage girls on a sight seeing trip to Hawaii with Elvis (Chad Gates) as the tour guide. Nancy retired from acting many years ago, and worked as an evangelist with the "Jesus Is Coming" Ministries. After an appearance at a 1995 Elvis Convention, she decided not to visit the Elvis gatherings anymore. She wanted to concentrate full-time on her ministry work. In an article for a Florida paper, she said, "I loved Elvis. If there's anything I can say to his loving fans, I will. I just don't want to get caught up in it. This is enough. I have to get on with my life." Nancy's career began as a model, appearing in ads in magazines such as Vogue, Mademoiselle, and Harper's Bazaar. Apart from being an ordained minister, Nancy was a published poet, a painter, an estate executive, and a world-wide traveler. |

Martin D-35 guitar for sale |
| |
Up for auction; an instrument which met with an unfortunate accident on the stage of the Bay Front Center Arena in St. Petersburg, Florida, on the evening of February 14, 1977. It was at the conclusion of the concert's first song, "See See Rider" that Presley broke a guitar string and the blue corduroy guitar strap while performing one of his trademark karate moves. According to a story describing the performance in the February 15, 1977 edition of the Tampa Times, Elvis "...ended it with his usual quick toss of the guitar. No one caught it, though, which was a surprise....Who waited in line the longest?' the Pelvis asked. Hundreds of women cried they did, which was interesting since the Bay front Center requested mail-order only. Elvis leaned over and handed his guitar to a disbelieving woman in the first row. St. Petersburg policemen finally escorted her out for awhile, probably realizing she wouldn't be safe leaving with the guitar after the show." That woman, seated in the front row, was Kathy Waldrop, who attended the concert with her mother. The guitar remained in her possession until 2004. Accompanying the guitar are copies of several newspaper articles and concert reviews in which the guitar's demise is detailed, including quotes from Kathy Waldrop. An additional story with pictures of Waldrop and the guitar on display at a Tampa radio station a day after Presley's death is also included. Estimate $ 150,000-200,000

Graceland in pink |
| |
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In support of this great cause and awareness campaign, Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion in Memphis, a National Historic Landmark, will glow in a shade of pink starting the evening of Thursday, October 1st, 2009. Elvis Presley was famous for his signature pink Cadillac and for giving away Cadillac cars as well, but the true depth and breadth of his generosity and community involvement is not so widely known. Audience tickets for his 1973 Aloha from Hawaii television special and its pre-broadcast rehearsal show carried no price, as each audience member was asked to pay whatever he or she could. The performances and concert merchandise sales were a benefit raising $75,000 for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund in Hawaii.

| No street for Colonel Parker in Holland |
| |
Although it has been 100 years since Colonel Parker was born in Holland, the city of Breda - birthplace of the Colonel, aka Andreas van Kuijk - sees no reason to honor him with "the Tom Parker Street". The official request was discussed this week, and rejected. One of the arguments against a "Tom Parker Street" is that the Colonel denied or at least tried to hide his Dutch roots for many years, he even changed his original Dutch name. Also, Colonel may have played an important role in the life of Elvis but he never prided himself with being a citizen of Breda and, consequently, he therefore never contributed to the history of the city.

Boulevard Improvements
|
| |
The federal government has awarded a $975,312 Streetscape Enhancement Grant to the city of Memphis for improvements to the Elvis Presley Boulevard Corridor. The city gave a local match of $243,828 for a total of $1.2 million worth of improvements along Elvis Presley Boulevard from Shelby Drive to Interstate 55.
The money will be used for street re-construction, utility relocation and upgrades, and pedestrian enhancements, which will beautify the gateway to the Whitehaven area.
"These enhancements will be seen by millions of tourists who come to our city each year to visit Graceland," Mayor Pro Tem Myron Lowery said in a statement. "In addition, they will enhance the quality of life for the wonderful citizens who live in the Whitehaven community."
This is the first phase of the city's efforts to enhance the Elvis Presley Boulevard Corridor. |

Small statue for Forest Hill |
| |
Memphis News... When we're travelling to Memphis, we always include a stop at the Mausoleum of Forest Hill Cemetery where Elvis's body was laid to rest on August 16th 1977. A few months later, early October of 1977, Elvis's body and that of his beloved mother Gladys were transported to the Meditation Garden next to Graceland. For years, fans visited the crypt with only a few flowers indicating the exact spot where Elvis once was laid to rest. This year, we spotted a small statue in the crypt. We were told that this was placed by the staff of Forest Hill Cemetery and will stay in the crypt for the next several years as a token of respect for Elvis.

Ilikai Hotel to reopen |
| |
The Ilikai Hotel in Waikiki will reopen later this week, according to property owner iStar Financial. The 203-room hotel closed on July 9 after iStar acquired the property in a foreclosure auction. Subsequently, iStar said the hotel would reopen after it hammered out a deal with the union representing hotel workers.
About 50 of the 75 Ilikai workers will be rehired, said iStar. Some of the rehired employees have worked for the Ilikai for more than 30 years.
Hotel Management Services, a subsidiary of Aqua Hotels & Resorts, will manage the hotel. "Guests who have reservations will see a seamless transition to the new management," iStar said. The Ilikai complex also includes 806 condos and timeshares, which were not affected by the hotel shutdown. Elvis liked the Y-shaped hotel a lot and stayed there several times - picture taken at the Ilikai Hotel in 1961.

Elvis' 75th Birthday Celebrated with Commemorative Ventura Watches |
| |
Hamilton is celebrating with five special models of the iconic Ventura watch, to mark what would have been his 75th birthday in 2010. Available in October 2009, the distinctive, shield-shaped timepiece, worn by Elvis in the 1961 movie, Blue Hawaii, comes in five new interpretations - two replicas of the original 1950's model, two additional replicas that will be for sale exclusively at Graceland and an XXL version. The Ventura Elvis Anniversary Collection promises to contribute a new chapter to two legends.
The Ventura Quartz is a faithful tribute to the original 1957 model, which made watch-making history as the world's first electrical, battery powered watch. Design detail of the case of the new model mirrors that of its 1950s ancestors and today comes in either silver-colored stainless steel or a yellow gold PVD finish. A black dial is also reminiscent of the 1950s Ventura timepieces, complete with digit markings all culminating in an embossed rounded point like the surrounds of the iconic wall-clocks of the era. These nostalgic looks enclose a modern Swiss quartz movement to ensure precision timekeeping for the 21st century.
The choice of attachment for the Ventura Quartz, with the possibility of a metallic flex bracelet or a bi-color leather strap in gold paired with silver or black, has its own story to tell. The watch originally purchased by Elvis would have had a leather strap and archive material reveals that, at his special wish, the jeweller exchanged this for a metal bracelet to satisfy his celebrity customer.
Ventura XXL Elvis Anniversary Collection
Having started its life as a pioneer, the Hamilton Ventura continues to make a bold statement over half a century later in the form of a limited XXL edition. This special timepiece integrates touches of the unexpected to give its classic inspiration a futuristic and rocky feel. The familiar shield shape of the gunmetal colored case gets a distinctively contemporary look through smoothed surfaces and XXL dimensions. The angular crown is integrated into the case with its pointed tip signalling 3 o'clock. The white or black dial has racy looks with a background effect resembling that of a high-tech sound box. A touch of fiery red stretches from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock and daringly reappears on the tip of the seconds hand. Celebrating modernity, the case elegantly flows into a stylish, smooth black rubber strap. The limited edition which will only be produced during 2010 will contribute to make the King's legend alive.
Hamilton was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA. Hamilton watches combine the American spirit with the unrivalled precision of the latest Swiss movements and technologies. Known for its innovative design, Hamilton has a strong foothold in Hollywood, with products appearing in over 350 films. The brand also boasts a strong aeronautical heritage. Hamilton is a member of the Swatch group, the largest watch manufacturer and distributor in the world with 160 production sites in Switzerland.

MAY 2009
| Plans for 'Graceland West' in Palm Springs |
| |
The owner of the Palm Springs estate once owned by Elvis Presley has big plans for the future. Reno Fontana and his wife, Laura, purchased the home at 845 West Chino Canyon Road from a Japanese businessman at a bargain price of $1.25 million in 2003. The Spanish-style white stucco property was in disrepair when the Fontanas bought it and they have been renovating the outside of the house for the last six years. But they won't stop there. The Fontanas have put plans into motion to create an entertainment complex surrounding the estate. Similar to Graceland in Memphis, the Palm Springs property will have buildings next door to house an Elvis museum, theater, recording studio, bowling alley, wedding chapel, guest houses and plenty of parking. This is a unique proposition since the estate is surrounded by other houses in close proximity. However, the Fontanas are planning on utilizing vacant land across the street and in the back of the property to create what they call "Graceland West." The property has recently been designated as the first event home to be registered in Palm Springs which permits a commercial business to operate in a residential area. Reno Fontana estimates the expansion will take five years to complete. However, unlike Graceland, Elvis Presley's Palm Springs Estate will feature modern decor and not the original furnishings and atmosphere of the 1970s when Elvis and Priscilla lived there. Fontana calls it the "Elvis of the Future". They have hired renowned interior decorator Carleton Varney to recreate a luxury lifestyle fit for "The King." |

Priscilla to officially open Graceland Stables |
| |
Priscilla Presley will preside today over the opening of Elvis Presley's Stable at Graceland for public tours for the first time ever in the storied history of Elvis Presley's home, Graceland. Artifacts on display as part of The Elvis Presley Stable Tour will include saddles used by Elvis and his entourage, personal western wear including chaps, hats and boots all worn by Elvis. Other items include checks and documents related to the purchase of some of Elvis' horses, and home movie footage of Elvis on horse back at Graceland.
Built on the Southeast corner of Graceland by its original owners in 1939, the Graceland Stable currently houses four horses. After Elvis bought the 13-acre estate in 1957, he often rode his horses around the property and even up to the front gate to sign autographs for fans.
Elvis started to focus more on riding and horses in December 1966, when he purchased a horse named Domino for Priscilla, along with a variety of riding clothes and equipment for the Presley family's equestrian activities. Shortly after Christmas, Elvis bought what would become his favorite horse, a Golden Palomino named Rising Sun. The Elvis Presley Stable eventually became known as the "House of the Rising Sun" in honor of Elvis' favorite horse. Elvis went to great lengths to personally organize everything in the stable. His handwriting can be seen today on the wall where he wanted the tack and harnesses of each horse.
When Graceland opened for public tours in 1982 there were still five of Elvis' original horses being cared for on the property.
* Rising Sun - a Golden Palomino American Quarter horse born in 1961.
* Memphis - a bay colored Tennessee Walking Horse.
* Moriah - Lisa Marie's black Shetland Pony.
* Mare Ingram - a bay-colored Mixed Breed horse Elvis named for Memphis Mayor Ingram when Highway 51 in front of Graceland was named Elvis Presley Boulevard.
* Ebony's Double - the last horse Elvis purchased for Graceland in 1975.
Graceland has had a number of horses over the years. Some were distant relatives of the original horses while others have been rescue horses.
* Sun's Reflection - a Golden Palomino and a distant cousin of Rising Sun who was brought to Graceland in 1988.
* Just Candy No Cash - a distant relative of Ebony's Double having come out the same Tennessee Walking Horse bloodline.
* Max of Maine - came from a rescue unit called Six Horses Saved. Priscilla arranged to have Max come to Graceland and three moved to Virginia to a foster farm. Two remain with Six Horses Saved.
* The Blue Eyed Bandit - rescued by Fayette County Tennessee Animal Rescue, Priscilla became involved and decided to move him to Graceland..
