WHAT IS YOUR OPINION OF ELVIS' MOVIE CAPABILITIES...
Elvis' talent did not just stop at his vocal abilities, he was an accomplished actor. In 1956, he set to work on his first motion picture, Love Me Tender, filmed in then black and white, he arrived on our screens as Clint Reno, set in the Civil War. Acting alongside his first leading lady, Debra Paget, Elvis delivered a quality performance... History was in the making and to follow, another 31 titles... These to include in date order, the following...
1: Love Me Tender (1956), 2: Loving You (1957), 3: Jailhouse Rock (1957), 4: King Creole (1958), 5: GI Blues (1960), 6: Flaming Star (1960), 7: Wild In The Country (1961), 8: Blue Hawaii (1961), 9: Follow That Dream (1962), 10: Kid Galahad (1962), 11: Girls! Girls! Girls! (1962), 12: It Happened At The World's Fair (1963), 13: Fun In Acapulco (1963), 14: Kissin' Cousins (1964), 15: Viva Las Vegas (1964), 16: Roustabout (1964), 17: Girl Happy (1965), 18: Tickle Me (1965), 19: Harum Scarum (1965), 20: Frankie And Johnny (1966), 21: Paradise Hawaiian Style (1966), 22: Spinout (1966), 23: Easy Come, Easy Go (1967), 24: Double Trouble (1967), 25: Clambake (1967), 26: Stay Away joe (1968), 27: Speedway (1968), 28: Live A Little, Love A Little (1968), 29: Charro! (1968), 30: The Trouble With Girls (1969), 31: Change Of Habit (1969), 32: Elvis: That's The Way it Is (1970), 33: Elvis On Tour (1972).
With all fans having their own opinion of Elvis' acting talent, we all know of the contractual obligations he was involved with the Colonel, thus keeping him from musical performances and other "discussed" ideas. Not until 1968 did he make that infamous 1968 Comeback, re-launching him back into live music performances. While his acting ability is somewhat often questionable, one thing is certain, Elvis did have the talent to become an actor, as seen in his early motion pictures, having based his attempts on his role model, James Dean, with Peter Sellars amongst others... Elvis' disatisfaction with his movies in later years was evident. This shown in his 1968 performance, "I did 29 movies like that", with reference to his quivering lip... He did reference receiving some movie scripts that would make him physically ill.

Comments: i think elvis had a potential to be a great actor.in tove me tender he was raw and beleivable.same with jailhouse rock and king creole. i love all his movies. with the exeption of a couple but as a loyal fan i would never criticise them.i think based on his ability to produce and arange music so well i also think he could have been a talented director too.but the elvis story is what it is and he stil left an amazing legacy behind even if he didnt maybe get the opportunity to star in outstanding and dramatic films. they were stil alot of fun and to this day can be considered as timeless entertainment!

Comments: The movies from the 1950's capture the excitement and rebelliousness of rock 'n roll better than anything else and contain classic Presley performances which are unsurpassed and inspiring. His 1960's output are good fun and some are magic in their own way. Charro is dull but in Wild in the Country, we get a great Elvis performance. Elvis on Tour is the best documentary, a stunning record of Elvis the performer, full of depth and power. Great backstage footage. It deserved the Golden Globe.

Comments: Darren I feel Elvis was capable of so much more than the world would le thim achieve. Everyone was more concerned with his voice and there for he was given cheezie musical roles instead of things like A Star is Born. He would have been so fabulous if given the chance to succeed. Just look at Charro for instance, that was a great role probably the best he had where he did not sing a word and they let him do that movie to prove to him that it wouldn't sale and it didn't, so that was the end of that and Elvis then went back to the stage where he was most comfortable entertainimg the fans.

Comments: Elvis movies at their best are rare examples of a pure instinctive performer relating an rising to creative challenges. At their most unspectatcular, the films still offer a unqiue and at times brilliant form of escapism. The Elvis film is the most misunderstood facet of the Presley legacy, "seek and ye shall find:

Comments: I am stuck between King Creole and Jailhouserock. In King Creole Elvis looked and sounded real mean. When he sang king creole man that was the Real Elvis...Jailhouse Rock Elvis was great in that as well. You see I think Elvis could have made better movies it was not his fault. He had the talent he proved it packer ruined the whole thing for Elvis...But to be fare Elvis never did stand up to Parker things might have been different if he did..

Comments: you might think I'm corny but I like them all but if I had to pick its a toss between 3 love me tender, viva las vegas, charro. screaming at cathy reno was raw and believeable and for a 1s time actor was excellent,Elvis and Annmargret you can see the chemisty between them that makes that film good. But I feel charro is just as good as king creole for seeing how polished elvis's acting had become. scripts may have been lame but elvis's presence shines out in every single one T C B xxx
