THE ELVIS WE DIDNT SEE

"There's no way to explain it except that he was one of a kind. I think he'd be proud to know that he left his mark on the world".

ANOTHER HOTEL?

Dream or reality? A group of investors is contacting fanclubs from around the world to see if they would be interested in another Elvis hotel in Memphis, near Graceland. From the mail by Fred Powers: "We have been planning to build the project as residential condominiums when a local Elvis fan (someone in the Memphis music scene) said "Why don't you create a hotel catering to Graceland visitors from around the world?" We think the idea has merit, so we decided to drop you an email and ask you, the friends and fan members who visit Graceland, what you think is needed."

The four buildings (see picture) can accommodate about 100 rooms and a number of suites. There will be a very large rooftop entertainment area for parties (and play Elvis' songs as loud as you wish) food, swimming and more! Secure parking, concierge and room service, health facilities, parking for tour busses, the works! We are open to a creative way to make this project a Friends of Elvis residential project . . . with lots of activities related to the fan's wishes, like limousine service to and from Graceland, trips to the Casinos nearby in Mississippi, tours of famous Beale Street for great food and to hear the 'blues'."

ELIVS' FIRST VEGAS VENUE IS IMPLODED

The New Frontier casino-hotel was imploded early today, giving a violent end to the second property to open on the Las Vegas Strip. The 16-story hotel tower was felled with over 1,000 pounds of explosives before a group of reporters and bystanders to make way for a multibillion-dollar resort bearing The Plaza brand, which is set to open in 2011. Elad Group owner and Israeli billionaire Yitzhak Tshuva, who is partnering to build an $8 billion megaresort where the New Frontier stood, shook hands and gave hugs after the tower went down. An easterly breeze helped to quickly dissipate the dust. The New Frontier earned historical notations by becoming the Strip's first theme casino and hosting Elvis Presley's debut in the city.

The owner of The Plaza hotel in New York, said the new property will include a luxury hotel with about 3,500 rooms, private residences, retail space and a casino bearing The Plaza brand, all set to reach for the highest end of the market. "Let me promise to all of you today that we will build in this beautiful city one of the most magnificent hotels in the world," Tshuva told a gathering ahead of the implosion. "I think that there should be no price tag for a place with such enormous potential."

The destruction of the New Frontier was the latest step in a dramatic, and expensive, facelift for the northern Strip. The Stardust hotel-casino was imploded in March.

The Last Frontier was the second hotel-casino to open on the Strip, and over its 65 years it played host to such entertainers as Ronald Reagan, Wayne Newton and Siegfried & Roy. Elvis Presley performed for the first time in Las Vegas at the resort in 1956. Billionaire Howard Hughes once owned it, and Wynn's purchase of a minority stake in the 1960s in exchange for heading up the slot and keno departments sparked his career as a casino magnate.

Californian Fires...

Elvis song sheets and scripts lost in California fire
25/10/2007 - 16:01:30

More than 30 original Elvis Presley movie scripts and song sheets were among the memorabilia items destroyed when Kashan Castle in Malibu, California was destroyed by fire on Sunday.

Owned by philanthropist and collector Lilly Lawrence, the famous landmark, also known as Malibu Castle and Hodge Castle, was one of the first buildings to succumb to the Malibu wildfires.

Lawrence told the New York Daily News: "Gone are 32 or 33 original movie scripts of Elvis. They were his personal scripts, with all his notes in the margins.

"All the music for 'Heartbreak Hotel' and 'American Trilogy', my favourite (are also gone)," he said.

"Untold things from Graceland. It's just devastating."

However, firefighters were able to save Presley's Nash Metropolitan car and his US Army jacket before the flames swept in.

THE LOVE SONGS

Always a true romantic, Elvis recorded many, many love songs throughout his career, beginning with "I Want You I Need You I Love You" in 1956 and running the entire span of his life. Entire eras of his remarkable life and career can be evoked by the mere mention of the title of one of his many love songs. Mention "Love Me Tender" and a hundred images spring to mind. The same can be said for his many other songs of romance. Elvis and his love songs had remained an unexplored area of Elvis' remarkable career. Now,"Love Me Tender. The Love Songs Of Elvis Presley" tells the warm story of the tender side of the King of Rock and Roll. Narrated by Ashley Judd, "Love Me Tender" is Elvis as you've never seen him.

NOV: ALERT!!!

Elvis, No 1 Dead Celebrity Earner 2008

ElvisMatters

The American magazine Forbes just published it's yearly
list of top earning dead celebrities. Elvis is still the number
one in this list with a whopping $52 million. That is more
than some of today's active entertainers. For example,
Madonna earned $40 million. Famous legends as Marilyn
Monroe and James Dean are among the steady names in
the list. New arrivals are actors that just passed away:
Heath Ledger and Paul Newman. Two years ago, Elvis lost
the number 1 position to Kurt Cobain, who's catalogue was
sold in 2006. His name does not appear on the list anymore.

Courtessey: ElvisMatters
What is your opinion of Elvis songs remixed, such as the latest 2008 remix of Baby Let's Play House?
I dislike thinking they spoil the original and Elvis' originality.
I think they are fantastic and contribute to his continued legacy.

What do you think of the scheduled Elvis duets Christmas album to be released?
I think it is a fantastic idea and welcome Elvis' work remixed...
I totally disagree with it and messes with Elvis' original work, something he was strongely against...

What is your opinion of EPE's latest statement and speculated expansion intentions?
I think it will commercialise Elvis too much and loose his original appeal.
I think it is great and promote his name in the music industry and to future generations.

Do you think the CBS Special of 1977 should be released as a Special Edition ?
 Yes
 No

Should FTD go down the road of DVD releases?
 Yes
 No

What is your opinion of Elvis Tribute Artists?
They are excellent and a credit to the continued preservation of Elvis' legacy.
I dislike Elvis Tribute Artists and think that they do nothing, if not tarnish, his legacy.

"Elvis managed to take over a song . . . It's written in stone once he cuts it."
