Can anyone tell me the Irish connection of each song ? Email info@elvisonline.org
March 3rd, marked the first year since the passing of Charlie Hodge. Elvis' close friend and fellow musician. In rememberance, I post this youtube item.

38 years ago this week,  Elvis gave his first concert at the Houston Astrodome

It was his very first performance outside Las Vegas since 1961. On February 28th 1970, 37.733 people witnessed the Elvis Magic.Elvis and the guys from the entourage flew to Houston for Elvis' engagement at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Kirk Kerkorian's private jet. Though the Colonel had tried to force the guys to travel on their own, they all went along with Elvis except for the wives this time.

Did You Ever Wish You Were Elvis?

By Kevin Molloy, former member of The Dublin City Ramblers and supporter of ElvisOnLine.Org .

Did you ever wish you were Elvis

Did the music get to your soul

The hits and the thrills

And the screaming young girls

And the madness born from Rock ?n Roll

Guess it all began in Memphis

In the state of Tennessee

The young kid with the truck

And the mean cool look

Elvis Aaron Presley

Fate dealt the hand

Formed a hic' country band

Crossed the path of Samy from SUN

Spun the kid on the waves

Spawned a new teenage craze

And a new world sound had begun

That's all right Mama

But it wasn't too cool with Dad

And Heartbreak hotel

Leading the young kids to hell

Screamed the preachers

They thought we were mad

Yeah the girls in their teens

Loved the dude in blue jeans

Twisted knees and a wild swinging Pelvis

Had the kids all shook up

The magic and mayhem of Elvis

Time marches on and our hero has gone

That August in ?77

When a star in the sky

Wiped a tear from a sigh

Took our hero Elvis to heaven

But he's still in our soul

In our barman Noel

To most he is still everything

And his star's burning bright

If you're lonesome tonight

He's still with you, Elvis the King

Cameron Crowe: I love Led Zeppelin

For a surreal moment, they found themselves staring at the three-dimensional embodiment of their own youthful rebellion. Plant spoke first, without cracking a smile. "Of course not," he said. "We're family men. In fact, I get the most pleasure out of walking the hotel corridors, singing your songs." Plant leaned forward, and offered his own best Elvis Presley impersonation. "Treat me like a foooool, treat me mean and cruuuel, but loooooove me."

Presley eyed Plant very carefully. Presley's "Memphis Mafia" studied the moment with growing intensity. And then Presley burst out laughing. The bodyguards burst out laughing. Suddenly, the atmosphere was dorm-room friendly.

For the next two hours, Presley entertained them with his own road stories, and tales from his movie-making days. He confessed that he had never heard Led Zeppelin's music, except for the one song his stepbrother played him - Stairway to Heaven. "I liked it," said Presley.

Later, walking down the hallway from the hotel room, Page and Plant congratulated themselves on their meeting with the King. Had it really gone as well as it seemed? The answer arrived a moment later.

"Hey," came a voice from down the hall. Elvis had poked his head out the door. They would never meet again, but this last image was one for the memoirs. It was Presley, serenading his new hard-rock friends with a perfect imitation of Robert Plant doing him. "Treat me like foooool."

While tuned in to Elvis Memories hosted by my friend John Kavanagh on Dublin City FM (103.2) last Sunday, Nov 25th, he was talking to fellow listeners in Portlaoise. During their interviewing, it was mentioned how Pricilla recently visited there on a less publicised trip to Ireland. John did mention the possibility that Elvis may have accompanied her should he have still been alive today, which made me think, would Elvis have ever visited Ireland?

It is likely he would have, if that European Tour had ever have kicked off, why not?. The European Tour having been speculated and talked about on many ocassions including 1973 post the Aloha concert, while being future plans in 1977 in the following year of 1978. Elvis did however make it near, stopping briefly in Scotland on route to Germany during his drafting. Ireland did see the light of day during his career, with the recording of My Boy, penned by Irish song writer Phil Coulter. Also, having heard Elvis perform a brief attempt at When Irish Eyes Are Calling during a rehearsal outtake. Should the often mentioned European Tour post 77 have occurred, do you think Elvis would have visited Ireland? There's no reason why not.

Wise Men Say . . .
Elvis' close relationship with Charlie Hodge, both professional and as a friend, saw Charlie Hodge having much influence in Elvis' working career. It was Charlie that recommended that Elvis finish each show with Can't Help Falling In Love, amongst other things.
Elvis On Board Lisa Marie 1976

You don't find too many pictures of Elvis on board of his airplane the Lisa Marie. This rather unknown picture of Elvis wearing what looks like a jogging jacket, taken in January 1976 in Aspen, Colorado. Posing for the camera are: Elvis, Mrs. Jack Kent, R.L "Skeet" Antonio, & sitting: Ron Pietrafeso.

Courtessey: ElvisMatters

If He Could Dream . . .

In a sold out auditorium one night in the 1970's, Elvis Presley turned to Charlie Hodge while taking a brief break between songs and asked Charlie Hodge, "Do you think when I die, people will remember me?". While no justification is necessary to script Elvis' popularity today more then ever, I think if only he could have known...

Popular music today, can only be derived as a result of Elvis and other greats of the time. To quote John Lennon, "No Elvis, No Beetles", Celine Dion "He really was The King". With much fame today around manufactured bands and music shows as Pop Idol, American Idol or X Factor, to see Celine Dion's performance on stage with him, performing If I Can Dream, says it all...

There has never been a more popular time, to be a proud Elvis Presley Fan...

COMING SOON, ELVISONLINE REVIEWS ...

THE LOVE SONGS

Always a true romantic, Elvis recorded many, many love songs throughout his career, beginning with "I Want You I Need You I Love You" in 1956 and running the entire span of his life. Entire eras of his remarkable life and career can be evoked by the mere mention of the title of one of his many love songs. Mention "Love Me Tender" and a hundred images spring to mind. The same can be said for his many other songs of romance. Elvis and his love songs had remained an unexplored area of Elvis' remarkable career. Now,"Love Me Tender. The Love Songs Of Elvis Presley" tells the warm story of the tender side of the King of Rock and Roll. Narrated by Ashley Judd, "Love Me Tender" is Elvis as you've never seen him.

NOV: ALERT!!!

Elvis, No 1 Dead Celebrity Earner 2008

ElvisMatters

The American magazine Forbes just published it's yearly
list of top earning dead celebrities. Elvis is still the number
one in this list with a whopping $52 million. That is more
than some of today's active entertainers. For example,
Madonna earned $40 million. Famous legends as Marilyn
Monroe and James Dean are among the steady names in
the list. New arrivals are actors that just passed away:
Heath Ledger and Paul Newman. Two years ago, Elvis lost
the number 1 position to Kurt Cobain, who's catalogue was
sold in 2006. His name does not appear on the list anymore.

Courtessey: ElvisMatters
What is your opinion of Elvis songs remixed, such as the latest 2008 remix of Baby Let's Play House?
I dislike thinking they spoil the original and Elvis' originality.
I think they are fantastic and contribute to his continued legacy.

What do you think of the scheduled Elvis duets Christmas album to be released?
I think it is a fantastic idea and welcome Elvis' work remixed...
I totally disagree with it and messes with Elvis' original work, something he was strongely against...

What is your opinion of EPE's latest statement and speculated expansion intentions?
I think it will commercialise Elvis too much and loose his original appeal.
I think it is great and promote his name in the music industry and to future generations.

Do you think the CBS Special of 1977 should be released as a Special Edition ?
 Yes
 No

Should FTD go down the road of DVD releases?
 Yes
 No

What is your opinion of Elvis Tribute Artists?
They are excellent and a credit to the continued preservation of Elvis' legacy.
I dislike Elvis Tribute Artists and think that they do nothing, if not tarnish, his legacy.
